"I am a Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach. My background is in kinesiology and I played rugby at elite level for many years. I first injured my lower back in July 2012. I was lifting and stupidly did not warm-up well enough. This wasn't a normal practice for me but I had limited time and my ego led me to believe that 10 bodyweight squats and 20 bodyweight lunges was enough to prepare myself for hang cleans. During the first set I felt something go, but I continued anyway and finished my workout. 4 days after that workout my back seized up and I could not walk for 2 weeks. Without insurance I tried rehabbing on my own, however I could not make that break-through in my training. I would train and it would be unbelievably tight for days afterward. Heat, using the lacrosse ball, foam roller, rehab exercises and stretching brought about immediate relief but was not a lasting solution. After half a year, I was functional but I was dealing with pain and tightness on a daily basis.


The first time I met Dr. Tan was at the gym I worked at in San Jose, and we arranged a first appointment at his clinic. I had tried another chiropractor before but was not very impressed so upon meeting Dr. Tan I was skeptical and not expecting any miracles. After the first treatment, I was a little sore but it was different than any pain or tightness I felt before. I’ve heard from friends that a lot of chiropractors depend on adjustments for treatment, but I could tell from Dr. Tan’s approach that adjustments were necessary for me but not the main facet of my rehabilitation. His manual treatment of my back, gluts and hamstrings along with traction and adjustments became my miracle cure. He also showed me some core exercises and dynamic movements which I've added to my program. I saw Dr. Tan 3 times per week in the beginning and then twice a week. A few months later I’m sprinting, jumping and lifting like I was years ago but most importantly I can function throughout my work day without any pain or tightness. I can sit in a car or a plane for hours and get out without fear my back is going to seize up. I can say without any doubt in my mind that without Dr. Tan’s help every day would be a battle and my career and overall happiness would be extremely limited by lower back pain. So for his willingness to go the extra mile for me, genuine care for my rehabilitation and the effect he’s had on my entire life, I am extremely grateful. Thank you Dr. Tan!"
